GD in Marc Jacobs Fall 2012

I just saw the One of a Kind album promos and this picture stood out to me because of the huge mad-hatter hat. Immediate, Marc Jacobs came to mind; he had every one of his models wear these hats on his runway last season so it’s kinda hard to not remember. The collection was so whimsical and absolutely breath-taking; by this point, Marc Jacobs can make trash bags and they would sell so I love that he is always taking risks by going the extra mile with his design concept. This collection reminds me of a mix of Alice in Wonderland and Wizard of Oz: the backdrop, the exaggeration of silhouettes, and the amazing colors. 

GD took the “cool” approach with this look; it’s the pairing of a extremely avant-garde piece with very basic items. Not that it’s bad or anything, but I would’ve love to see GD do something more exciting with the hat since it is such a statement piece. Even though his hat is not a runway piece, it still carries that same bombastic vibe to it. Marc Jacobs collections to me always require a second look; at first, I was a little unsure about the collection. However, when I watched the fashion show, it blew me away. I totally get his vision and it’s rare in today’s fashion world that someone is as brave as Marc Jacobs. This collection is beyond beautiful to me; it’s pure magic. It reminds us fashion lovers that fashion is a fantasy and allows us to dream. I’m glad that GD incorporated something from this collection to his own aesthetic because when I saw the collection, I knew it was right up his alley.
